Happy New Year 2016!
its been a hectic 9 months since I last wrote on here. 2015 was so busy for me, my family and my neighbourhood! Never was there a dull moment down Bishy Road - The inaugural Tour de Yorkshire shot past our shops and homes several times on that amazing day in May. The Street Party that followed was a lovely Yorkshire themed event (though a bit chilly towards the end!) attended by thousands of flat-capped Yorkie Folk!
In June, Frankie and I took a trip down to London for the Queen's Garden Party, which was, well, very regal, as you would expect, with rather good cucumber sandwiches! In August we spent a lovely week on the Suffolk coast with Charlotte, Freddie and Monty and treated ourselves to a weekly hire of a beach hut - bliss!
In the Autumn, Bishy Rd took part in the York Food Festival, with its mini Food Fair in the car park one Sunday in September. Frankie organised the Bishy Bake Off which was a roaring success, raising £890 for St Leonards Hospice.
The York Press Business Awards took place in November, where I was a finalist nominee for Business personality of the Year. Then there was the Winter Illuminations evening in November where thousands attended the fab switch-on party.
On 30th November, Frankie and I attended the G.B.High Street Awards at Admiralty House in Whitehall and not only did Bishy Road win best Local Centre, but to our amazement, won the over all Winner of Winners!! Thousands of supporters had voted for our little street!
Another successful public event was the York Ice Trail where Bishy Road took part with its sculptures of Yoda and a Pig in a santa hat!
The horrendous boxing day floods dominated the Christmas period in York, but thousands pulled together with a fantastic recovery effort that has helped so many flood victims. I was down by the river on 27th December, with many volunteers including a group from the Bradford Muslim community, who had turned up at the drop of a hat to do whatever was needed for those homes at risk .
To top off 2015, I was staggered to be awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours List. I have been really touched by all the well wishers who have congratulated me over the past few days. I am so lucky to have such great friends and neighbours.
Here's to a fabulous 2016- Hope its a good one for you!
